That Time Again

As we run up to another big November election, we can look forward to more fearmongering from the Mainstream Media and the Grand Ole Party. Remember the color-coded terror alert system? Gee, it's been a while since we went orange, hasn't it? I'd say it's been about a year and eight months, since about November of 2004. What a coincidence. But it seems to me that maybe they've given up the ghost on the color warnings. People are getting a little skeptical about those, and a little bit jaded. I'm hearing rumors now about "Homeland Security" putting together a new mobile phone system, where we can all be warned WHEREVER WE ARE, in the form of a text message on our cell phones. Just another good reason not to own one of those things. Makes me think they should ban cell phones in the polling places.

What you can be sure of is that there will be more "foiled plots" in the next few months, such as that gang of nitwits who supposedly recruited a man they thought was a bona fide, card-carrying Al Qaeda member, to get them some boots, so they could bring down the Sears Tower in Chicago. That seems to convince people (it doesn't take much apparently). Or easier still would be for the Administration to pay one of their crony governments, like Pakistan or Saudi Arabia or Libya to make claims of busting up a plot to strike on American soil. Those governments don't even need to produce evidence -- they can do whatever they want.

Thanks fellas, the check is in the mail.

GREEN BAY, Wis. -
President Bush said Thursday that a foiled plot to blow up multiple flights from Britain to the United States shows "this nation is at war with Islamic fascists."

Interesting development, not the least bit surprising:

U.S., U.K. at odds over timing of arrests
British wanted to continue surveillance on terror suspects, official says

LONDON - NBC News has learned that U.S. and British authorities had a significant disagreement over when to move in on the suspects in the alleged plot to bring down trans-Atlantic airliners bound for the United States.

A senior British official knowledgeable about the case said British police were planning to continue to run surveillance for at least another week to try to obtain more evidence, while American officials pressured them to arrest the suspects sooner. The official spoke on condition of anonymity due to the sensitivity of the case.

In contrast to previous reports, the official suggested an attack was not imminent, saying the suspects had not yet purchased any airline tickets. In fact, some did not even have passports.
