Habeas Corpus: R.I.P.

The president just got another generous gift of constitutional sidestepping from his lapdogs in Congress. A bill was just passed which, though the language is, as usual, obfuscated and unclear, does the following:

1. It allows the U.S. government, legally now, to detain those labelled "enemy combatants" without legal counsel, without charges, without any semblance of the due process of law that used to define our justice system.
2. It allows, in fact specifically states, that "enemy combatants" can very well be US citizens. The definition is frighteningly vague. There is NOTHING in place to keep plain old patriotic dissenters from being labelled with this scarlet letter.
3. It gives latitude to the CIA and other interrogators to use methods of torture to coerce information out of detainees.
4. And most importantly, it EXONERATES this criminal president from dozens of laws he has already broken.

And the warhawks still claim that, "if you are not a terrorist, you have nothing to worry about." But they obviously fail to see the big picture. Who decides what a "terrorist" is exactly? And what's to stop you from being mistakenly imprisoned, because you share a name with someone on "the list"? In the past, that's what the writ of Habeas Corpus was for. An 800 year old document that has been in place to prevent just this sort of thing, with a smug stroke of his pen, erased by our Dear Leader. Now, if and when someone wrongly imprisoned is found to be innocent, it will only be after that person is LEGALLY beaten, tortured and ruined.

In a "pre-emptive" response to those who would label me a "terrorist-coddler" or whatever other cute pet names they're using this week to maintain and advance the stranglehold the crooked elites have over the reasonable and sane people in this country, I say this: I have no love for anyone who would kill innocent people. Period. I don't care what the reason. That's how I define terrorism. And my country has been taken over by a bunch of lying, thieving, stealing, torturing, bullying, name calling, fascist TERRORISTS. If I was dictator, I would put them all in Gitmo, strip them naked, bag their heads, bind their hands, waterboard them, and all the rest. Then maybe they would see why this is a problem.

One day it will suddenly dawn on people that this is no longer the America it used to be, and they will ask, "how did this happen?"

And the other 49% of us will only shake our heads.
