Almost. It's definitely worth cheering that we'll finally have some checks and balances back in our government. Maybe I don't have to flee the country just yet.
The electorate has spoken, and they've finally woken up to give Dubya and his rubber stamp, pedophile, bribe-loving Congress a big slap on the face. Now he's got 2 months to squeeze in as much ass-saving legislation as he can. He's already tried to put Bolton up for nomination again (no luck - sorry, you're still going to have to answer to the international community eventually George). Now they'll make another push to legalize the NSA wiretaps. History shows, as do his most recent moves, that Bush will NOT show his humility by dropping the ideology and meeting us halfway. In his press conference on the day after the midterm elections, he basically insulted the intelligence of the American people by saying they don't understand what needs to happen in Iraq. Not a good move. Not the way to make friends. And anyway, how would we know, if he refuses to tell us? I guess he's just smart enough to realize that We the People probably wouldn't accept the truth -- that Iraq is nothing more than a tremendous business opportunity -- another chance to plunder the treasury and dole out our taxpayer dollars to his industry pals in return for favors. I was happy, however, to see him admit that "it was a thumpin' !". There's no question about that.
Now our eyes turn to the Democrats, who didn't win the election so much as they were handed the baton when it was taken away from the bad kids. Disappointing already. It's a good move for the country that they claim they want to pursue centrist goals: raise minimum wage, bolster National Security initiatives, tighten up the borders. But to say that impeachment is "off the table" is, in my opinion, a bad move for the country. Good for the Democrats who are looking to the moderates for future votes, but bad for Justice. There are criminals running the country, and criminals need to be brought to justice. It has nothing to do with vengeance or partisan politics. There is a criminal justice system in place for a reason -- to deter others from repeating the crime. If we let these criminals slide, what's to stop it from happening all over again? When people see that you can seize executive power, loot the treasury, sex up intelligence in order to launch a pre-emptive, unjust war, and get away with it!!! ...it WILL happen again.
Investigate. Subpoena. And if crimes are proven, convict, sentence, and impeach.
